A successful virtual meeting of the 2nd session of the bilateral commission of cooperation between Algeria and New Zealand held on 18 November 2020
The meeting of the second session of the bilateral commission of cooperation between Algeria and New Zealand took place on 18 November 2020 via video conference.
This first virtual meeting between the delegations of the two countries composed by representatives of different ministries and organisation concerned by bilateral cooperation in various sectors, like agriculture, mining, industry, Education, was highly successful. It was co-chaired, on the Algerian side, by Ambassador H.E. Boumedienne Guennad, Director General of Asia and Oceania division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and for New Zealand side, by the Deputy Secretary for Europe Africa and Middle East , H.E.Mr. Rob TAYLOR
The meeting gave the opportunity for both parties to review the good relationship between the two countries and examine ways and means to deepen the cooperation in various sectors on a win-win basis. The two parties noted with satisfaction the good level of trade which place Algeria as the second African trade partner of New Zealand and its potential for growth.
The meeting was also an occasion to highlight the potential for cooperation between the two countries in key sectors and the need for more investments in various sectors, notably in Agriculture and Agro-industry, Industry, biotechnology, training for farmers, cattle breeding, veterinary health, etc.
The Algerian delegation informed about the signing of the new investment Law and the amendment 51/49 formula, which open more ways for foreign investment to intervene various sectors. The two parties agreed to exchange further information on regulations related to the mining sector, training of Algerian technical staff in the field of geology and investing in the development of mining projects , initiating technical relations between the geological services of the two countries.
In the field of Education, the parties agreed to envisage the possibility for an increase in number of scholarships offered by New Zealand to the Algerian government.
Finally, the meeting offered the opportunity to exchange views on some international issues of common interest in their respective regions and at international level and to stress their convergence of analysis and positions and their common desire to strengthen their consultations on those matters.

CONGRATULATIONS TO Ms DESPOJA FOR HER ELECTION TO THE CEDAW
HE, Merzak BELHIMEUR is pleased to present his warmest congratulations to Ms. Natasha Stot Despoja, for her brilliant election to the Committee on the elimination of discrimination against women, which makes her the first Australian member to this body for 28 years.
HE the Ambassador had the pleasure of receiving Ms. Despoja at the Embassy, two days before the elections, for a courtesy visit, during which he was able to appreciate her commitment to the cause of the promotion of women rights not only in Australia, but all over the world. On this occasion, he assured Ms. Despoja of the support of the Algerian government and his personal confidence that she will continue with more determination her endeavor for the betterment of the women conditions as a member of the UN Committee, for the coming four years.

Annual review of the Electoral Roll
From 15th November 2020 to 14th December 2020
The Algerian Embassy in Canberra has the honour to inform all its fellow citizens residing in Australia, New Zealand, and in the South Pacific countries, that the annual review of the electoral roll operation will take place from 15th November 2020 to 14th December 2020.
For this purpose our registered nationals are invited to register or request to be removed from the Electoral Roll before 14th December 2020.

Ms. Natasha Stot Despoja, Australia’s candidate for The Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, CEDAW, paid a courtesy visit, on Thursday, November 05, 2020, to the ambassador of Algeria, His Excellency Merzak Belhimeur.
During the discussion, Ms. Despoja presented her multidisciplinary itinerary in favor of the promotion and the defense of the rights of women in Australia, as well at the political level as the civil society and expressed her commitment to continue her action, if elected to the Committee, at international level in favor of the promotion of women
While expressing his wishes for success, His Excellency Ambassador Merzak Belhimeur, for his part, underlined the constant interest of Algeria to the role played by that important body of the United Nations as well as the efforts made by the Algerian government in favor of the promotion of Algerian women in all areas.

Mobilisation of Algerian competencies living overseas to participate in the Nation’s development
The Algerian Embassy is pleased to inform the members of the Algerian community living in Australia, New Zealand and in the South Pacific countries, that within the framework of the implementation of the government’s work plan related to the mobilisation of all the national competencies living overseas for their valuable contribution to the economic and social development efforts of the mother country, a new electronic platform has been set for that purpose and will enter into service very soon.
All fellow Algerians who have professional expertise and qualifications in any scientific, economic, social and cultural fields and willing to be part of this noble endeavour, are invited to get access to this electronic platform to learn about its contents and for its enrichment through all their advice and suggestions.

Repatriation of remains of the deceased to Algeria
The Algerian Embassy in Canberra is pleased to announce, as part of the efforts to address the concerns of the Algerian community living in Australia, New Zealand and in the South Pacific, that the government of Algeria has decided to cover the costs of repatriating, back to Algeria, remains of all deceased Algerian citizens, as provided in article 71 of the 2020 supplementary Finance Law.
